Walls engineered to hold their line for decades

A retaining wall is doing real structural work — holding back tonnes of saturated soil. Most failures come from skipped drainage or an undersized footing, not the wall itself. We build from the ground up: proper excavation, concrete footing, drainage and back-fill.

Sloping gardens become usable, level terraces with planters, steps and seating built into the design. Brick, block, natural stone or hardwood sleepers — chosen to sit naturally with your house and garden.

How we work

Our retaining walls process

A simple, transparent four-step process — so you always know what's happening and when.

01

Levels & design

We survey the slope, calculate retained height and agree materials, tiers and access points with you.

02

Excavate & footing

The line is excavated to firm ground and a reinforced concrete footing is poured and left to cure.

03

Build & drain

The wall is laid course by course with weep holes, geotextile membrane and free-draining back-fill behind it.

04

Finish & landscape

Copings, steps and planters go on, the terrace above is levelled and the site is fully cleared.

Why choose EH Landscapes

Why homeowners pick us for retaining walls

Drainage done properly

Weep holes, membrane and clean stone back-fill stop water pressure building behind the wall — the number one cause of failure.

Right material, right job

Sleepers for softer garden lines, brick and stone where it needs to match the house. We advise honestly on both.

Usable space gained

We design terraces around how you'll actually use them — dining level, lawn level, planting level.

Height guidance respected

We work within load and height guidance and will tell you early if a design needs structural sign-off.

  • Brick, block, stone and sleeper construction
  • Engineered drainage & back-fill
  • Tiered planters and integrated seating
  • Fully compliant with load & height guidance

Usually not under 1m next to a highway or 2m elsewhere, but retained ground levels can complicate it. We'll flag anything that needs checking with the council.
